Adult Empowerment Retreat
The 2020 Empowerment Retreat
for adults 21+ with disabilities
was held virtually this year from September 25-27.
This year’s theme was:
“Healthcare Hacks: Be the Boss of your Best Life”
Over 50 adults with disabilities gathered online to particpate in workshops and sessions including topics such as: Race, Disability & Health; Navigating Insurance & Appeals; Mental Health; Medical Trauma; and Surviving Substance Abuse. Retreaters also participated in movement, dance and meditation sessions.
SBRN is so grateful for the strong leadership of the Retreat Coordinators, Millie Gonzalez and Colleen Roche, who did an amazing job organizing and facilitating the Retreat.
We would also like to thank the workshop leaders who are all experts in their fields:

The Adult Empowerment Retreat is an annual unique, peer-led, fun and interactive three-day conference for adults with disabilities, 21 and over, which is designed to increase independence, socialization, self-esteem and overall growth. Workshops and other activities explore health & wellness, relationships and intimacy, disability justice and other important topics.
Because the retreat is developed, coordinated and facilitated by individuals with disabilities, it provides participants the opportunity to gather in a safe space to discuss the impact that disability-related issues have on their lives, both as an individual and as a community.
